- Description
The President of the United States, George W. Bush, depicted as a simpleton, in enormous boots, representing the presidency, and wearing a badge inscribed 'Dubya', (his nickname, from his way of pronouncing his middle initial, W). He is holding up both hands in V for victory signs, and appears to be too small for the large boots he is wearing. Refers to doubts about the intellect and capacity of the newly-elected President.
Exhibition caption reads - New Zealanders were generally puzzled by what almost (but not quite) 50% of voting Americans found to admire in their new president, George W. Bush.
Exhibited in '30 from 2000' exhibition of 30 cartoons from the New Zealand Cartoon Archive collection displayed in the National Library (auditorium foyer) from 7 July 2001. The cartoons were all published in the year 2000. Final selection of cartoons made by Rt Hon Jonathon Hunt, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Denis Welch, New Zealand Listener journalist, and Margaret Calder, Chief Librarian of the Alexander Turnbull Library.
