Began as a training school for secretarial and business practices. An offshoot was formed in 1914 to proved a day school for boys in Wellington City after Gladys Somerville moved her day school (Croydon School) to become a boarding school at Days Bay. Banks College moved into the premises vacated by Croydon School at 81 Hill St., Wellington, and stayed for one year, when it too needed to expand. The first move was to the Wellington Chambers, Woodward St. Then in 1920, the school (as distinct from the business college) became Wellesley College, at the same time as another move took place, to 98 The Terrace. See "Wellesley College" / Peter Harcourt (P q373.222 HAR 1989). Commercial college located on Lambton Quay in 1904 when first issue of `The Commercial monitor' was published in May. Located at 96-102 The Terrace, Wellington. E L Enting, Director and H Amos, Managing Director by 1930s
