Ngati Porou, lived in the Hawkes bay / Gisborne area and was paid a salary by Donald McLean for his participation alongside the Colonial troops against Te Kooti and the Hauhau and was a correspondent to Donald McLean. At Te Horo a stone was unveiled on the 8th April 1924 in his memory.
