Judge of Supreme Court of New Zealand. Served in World War I, with the New Zealand Medical Corps in October 1914. He transferred to the 4th Field Artillery in April 1915 and took part in the Gallipoli Campaign until October when he was invalided. He returned to active service in 1918 and served with the 5th Field Artillery in France from July until the end of the war. His war experiences are recorded in his war diaries held at the Alexander Turnbull Library.

They leave Auckland in October on the troop transport ship "Star of Africa", The photographs of Egypt are largly to do with army life, eg kit inspection, trips to the pyramids, general views of camp life, and photographs of friends.
