Comprises correspondence between Thomas King and Mary Chilman (later King), and between King and various family members and friends; King's business correspondence, especially relating to coastal shipping; papers relating to King's election to the House of Representatives (1853-1855, 1860) and to the Taranaki Provincial Council (1856, 1857-1861); a few relating to his career as manager of the Bank of New Zealand in New Plymouth (1861-1876); and a considerable amount relating to his position as chairman of the New Plymouth Harbour Board (1876-ca1889). Other papers include correspondence from Mary King to her husband, clippings and correspondence relating to Truby and Newton King, sons of Thomas and Mary King, various papers relating to Taranaki incidents including petitions, list of electors (1852) and other papers.
