Description: Interviewer Piripi Walker (Ngāti Raukawa) talks to Patariki Te Rei (Ngāti Toa) about the new government entities for Māori, the Ministry of Māori Affairs (Manatū Māori) and Te Tira Ahu Iwi (Iwi Transititon Agency), and recent current affairs news relevant to Māori. The recording starts with a mihimihi to those who have died recently. Patariki Te Rei is interviewed on the day of the launch of Te Tira Ahu Iwi, headed by Wira Gardiner (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Pikiao, Whakatōhea, Te Whānau a Apanui) as Tumuaki Matua (General Manager). He talks about the closure of the Department of Māori Affairs on the previous Friday, the rapid dismantling of the department, and the qualities of Wira Gardiner in the new role.
