Aris, Bernard Ford, 1887-1977

Taranaki artist, who came to New Zealand from Britain in 1890. He served in the First World War and settle in New Plymouth in 1922. He produced woodcuts, etchings, oils, watercolours and drawings, including many of Mt Taranaki. See Kate McGahey's "Concise dictionary of NZ artists" (Wellington, 2000). According to note on backing of bookplate drawn by Aris, he was the son of a London banker".
