Lynch, Frank Guy Ennis, 1895-1967

Artist and sculptor, known both as Frank and as Guy Lynch, born either in Melbourne or New Zealand. With NZEF in World War I (New Zealand Field Artillery), serving at Gallipoli and in France, where he won the Military Medal for gallantry, in 1916 or 1917. Some of the drawings in the wartime publication Shell Shocks, were his work. After the war he moved to Britain, then to Australia about 1930. He exhibited bronze heads at the Royal Academy in 1921 and 1928. His entry for a New Zealand competition for a national war memorial 'The untidy soldier' was rejected, but memorial sculptures by him in Masterton and Devonport were produced.
