Deverell, Walter, 1853?-1920

New Zealand artist and surveyor. Born Leamington, arriving in New Zealand at an early age. Joined the Lands & Survey Department as a surveyor in June, 1875 initially at Dunedin. Spent most of his working life in the Invercargill office, 1882-1915, becoming Chief Draughtsman. Exhibited at the Otago Art Society from 1875 and at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, 1889, 1891, 1899. Listed in the indexes to New Zealand deaths in 1920. Died in Invercargill. Possibly the son of English artist Walter H. Deverell, b. 1827.
