Cartoon showing Sir George Grey and Sir John Hall, as rivals for the hand of Zealandia. Grey at the left is holding a paper about local government and [the] rights [of the] people. John Hall is grasping Zealandia's hand and there is a paper at the ground between them, concerning "New loan; no more stonewalling; Peace with honour".
Attributed to Hutchison (who often signed his cartoons Phizog) on stylistic grounds
The general election took place on 9 December 1881.
