Harding, Thomas Bennick, 1824-1910

Printer, bookbinder, painter & glazier. Arrived in New Zealand on the 'Bernicia' in 1848 with his wife Jane (née Coupland). Their son Robert Coupland Harding was born in Wellington in 1849. The family moved to Wanganui to set up a printing house. In 1858 fire destoyed the home & business & in 1859 the family lived for a time with his elder brother John who had a sheep station at Waikari, north of Napier. He resumed his own trade in Napier in Apr 1861. Wrote to Donald McLean from Hawke's Bay Times Office, Napier in 1860s. [Source: Dictionary of NZ biography entry for Robert Coupland Harding].
