Wyndham, George O'Brien, 1751-1837

Patron and friend of Gideon Mantell. Patron of the Mantellian Museum; successful stockbreeder at Petworth and art patron. In addition to the Petworth estates, he owned property inherited by his father in the north and west of England. After his death Petworth passed to his kinsman Col George Wyndham (1789-1869) who was created Baron Leaconfield in 1859. [AJCP Handbook Pt 8]
