- Description
"Blue" shows the letters B L U E arranged on the black page, in shades of blue. There is a yellow circle at bottom right.
The letters used were carved out of kauri board and are 18" high. The letters were made by the Evening Post in order to print posters for use on the outside of Wellington trams (eg to advertise sales at James Smith's) ca 1930s. Impressions were obtained by inking each piece of wooden lettering with a hand roller, placing a sheet of paper over it and getting an impression either by treading on it, or by rolling on it. The surviving wooden letters are in the care of the Waiteata Press at Victoria University. See letter from donor at AT 10/14, 26 February 1997.
