Workers preparing meals for unemployed women and girls, at the old Wellington Technical College buildings in Mercer Street, 1932. Photographer unidentified.

Notes on back of file print reads: Published in Evening Post, Tuesday 14 June, 1932, with caption "TO HELP UNEMPLOYED WOMEN" - Meals are now being served for unemployed women & girls in the old Technical College buildings, Mercer Street, where the Unemployed Relief Committee, of which the Mayoress Mrs T C A Hislop is chairman, has fitted up a kitchen and dining rooms. Miss Amy Kane is secretary of the Committee & Miss gordon is organising secretary and has charge of the scheme. One hot meal and morning & afternoon tea are provided each day, and the average daily catered for is between 30 & 40.
