- Description
Shows an industrial labour leader (probably Jim Knox) with mortar board and black singlet, standing in front of a blackboard teaching a class. Looking gloomily in at the doorway are Sir Robert Muldoon (the shorter of the two men), and Les Gandar, the Minister of Education. On the blackboard is written: E = $ [squared] x X - TAX.; and, I WANT MORE / YOU'VE GOT MORE / HE'S GOT MORE / WE WANT MORE / THEY CAN GO TO... with the last word (presumably Hell) covered with Knox's hand, and intended as an elementary reading and writing lesson for the junior class.
A Post Primary Teachers' Association strike was held on 23 February 1978, the day after this cartoon appeared in the New Zealand Herald.
