Description

Depicts the lower half of North Island from approximately the Marokapa River across to Tolaga Bay southwards, and the top half of South Island from Bluff Pt. across to Gore Bay northwards. The area from the Mokau river to Pt. Tehakakare is shaded within a dotted line indicating the New Zealand Company's lands. Some coastal areas within this boundary are marked off as 1st., 4th, 5th., 6th. and a key to these areas is as follows: 1st. Deed - Port Nicholson purchase. 2nd. Deed - Fanpero and his tribes title to all their lands within the bounds coloured yellow. 3rd. Deed - the same as regards the Ngatiawa tribe. 4th. deed - Wanganui. 5th. Deed - Taranaki. 6th. Deed - Ditto [i.e Taranaki]. The 2nd. and 3rd. areas are not marked off on the map. Some bays, points and capes are named including Foulwind, Farewell, Palliser, Castle, and Egmont. Also named are Queen Charlotte Sound, Cook Strait, Hawke Bay and the islands D'Urville, Kapiti, Mana and Sugarloaf. Many rivers are marked, some un-named.
