Description: An account of the death of Captain W. D. Speer, as a passenger, shot by a sentinel on returning to his room late at night as a passenger aboard the steamer Octaroon on her way to Fort Benton, southern United States of America. The sentinel, who had not challenged Speer and was not supposed to interfere with passengers on the ship, was arrested.
