Description

Photograph of a Cobb & Co coach stopped in front of "Half-Way House", Whangamoa (a Nelson to Blenheim service operated by Newman Brothers). The coach driver is seated at the front of the coach drinking a cup of tea. Two women, two small children and a baby in arms are standing nearby posing for the photographer. The baby's pram is beside them and there are two pails (of water for the horses) at their feet. Half-Way House is a two-storey wooden building with a corrugated iron roof with filials at each end and a lean-to at the back. The hills in the background are heavily wooded. Photograph taken by Tyree Brothers of Nelson in 1890.
