A small thatched cottage, a chimney at the left end, close to the shore. A rowboat is pulled up in the foreground. Barrels and a small fence to the left, two small huts to the right, a signal mast on Lookout Point, the hill behind. The picture is enclosed in an arched outline. Rain is indicated in the sky.
The same cottage appears in a larger view of Bluff (dated May 1873) on the following page of the sketchbook. The roof in the larger drawing is noted as made of raupo
