Mr W Malin, Athletic Park groundsman, with one of three buckets of roofing nails collected from the playing surface at Athletic Park, Wellington, photographed 19 April 1968 by an Evening Post staff photographer.
Original newspaper caption states "....Mr Malin (a 1920-21 Wellington rugby representative), the park caretaker (Mr P A Hinds) and four other workers spent two days clearing the ground from the aftermath of last Wednesdays storm. Lead-capped nails were showered onto the ground after roofing iron on the main stand was lifted and hurled down by fierce wind....". (Evening Post, 19 April 1968).
