Overlooking the settlement at Carey's Bay, Dunedin, showing a large dwelling with a chapel and flag pole alongside. The steamship Jane is in the foreground. Photograph taken by David Alexander De Maus, between 1875 and 1899. The SS Jane, of 38 tons, was built in Auckland by Thomas Thwaites. She was registered in 1868 at the Port of Auckland; in 1873 at the Port of Dunedin (owned by Andrew Thomson, merchant of Port Chalmers, 1873-1874); in 1886 at the Port of Lyttelton.
