Shows a group of Maori at the edge of Lake Taupo, with a long palisade running along the waterfront to the left. Tongariro and Ruapehu mountains are in the distance.
Merrett joined Dieffenbach and his party at Taupo. See the journal of Ensign Best, edited by N Taylor.
