Original caption reads: "Coaches crossing Maungatoetoe Stream, on the Waiouru-Tokaanu road". Shows two horse drawn mail coaches carrying passengers and luggage, alongside a stream which passes by tussock covered hills. The coach in the foreground flies a Union Jack. Two passengers in the front seat are blowing horns. Photograph taken by an unidentified photographer circa 1880s.
Note: No listing for a Maungatoetoe Stream in the Reed New Zealand Atlas, or in the Reed's or Andersen's indexes. Possibly Mangatoetoenui Stream?
