Contains a letter from Charles Clifford, dated 25 Aug 1845 to Col Richmond (Mathew Richmond?) anwering Richmond's queries about flax treatment and production of flax goods, specifically canvas for wool bales (a copy of the questions is attached to this letter) and several letters from FitzRoy, one incomplete and undated, to Hamilton, dated 29 July 1846 and 12 and 13 Sept 1847, giving news of FitzRoy's activities and comments on Hamilton's career including advice on an opening on the survey vessel the `Acheron'. Also includes a letter from Henry John Tancred to Hamilton dated 25 Sept 1871 dealing with local and national politics and economic matters, giving an update on questions asked by Hamilton concerning buildings in Cathedral Square and his salary as a receiver and passing on news on developments in the University world and a letter dated 1867 which appears to be written by Hamilton..
