Description

Steam locomotive 220, Wa class, type 2-6-2T, built by NZR Addington. Location probably Petone Railway Workshops. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1897 and 1946.

Original print in Godber Album Vol 108, p 55 (Pa1-q-101), with caption "Wellington Exhibition 1896".

Inscriptions: Album page - Wa. 1896. Wellington Exhibition 1896.

This engine entered service on 16 February 1897 and was written off and sold in 1946. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 53.)
