Description

Photographic copy of a poster dated 22 February 1858 advertising the selling of the wreck of the American whaling ship 'Alexander' by public auction.

Text of the poster includes "For the benefit of whom it may concern. Wrick of the American whaling ship "Alexander" of New Bedford, U S, 421 Tons Register, Francis Dougherty, Master, with cargo of Sperm Oil, &c Mr J H Wallace has received instructions from James Smith Esquire, the United States Consular Agent, at Wellington, to sell by Public Auction, at the Exchange, Wellington, on Tuesday, The 23rd February, 1858, ..."
