View from a steep hill looking down on the Wanganui River, with Maori men in the foreground on both sides. On the left, a man is leaning against a carved support post for the palisade of a pa, and there is a canoe landing site below, in the river, close to an area of cleared land with European buildings. Two of the three men on the right are smoking pipes.
The names Patearero and Pukehika are no longer in use. The site appears to be some distance up the river from Wanganui city
