Mt Egmont Ballast railway line under construction, Taranaki, with Public Works Department gang. Photograph taken in 1908 by James McAllister.
The line was built to access the York Road Quarry (York Road is between Midhirst and Waipuku) and this image shows the line to the quarry on the left. At the bottom right is the turn off to the crusher, at the edge of the mountain reserve.
