Provenance: Probably created Northeast Europe. This Psalter uses the tenfold liturgical division typical of Franco-Flemish lay Psalters used in Northeast French and Flemish-Franco psalters from the early 13th century onwards. A localisation in the approximate area of northeast France and the southern Low Countries is also supported by many of the saints found in the Calendar and Litany. The Calendar is also compatible with the archdiocese of Cologne, containing a number of characteristic Cologne feasts (see Barratt). Note on wrappings: "Donated to [Wellington] Cathedral by late Mr W B Hudson" and posted to Bishop Sprott. Signature "Cha. Hudson" on lower pastedown. Charles Hudson (1819-1884) and his son William Burgoyne Hudson (1859-1928) emigrated to New Zealand in 1881.

- 1 volume(s) (in box), 0.03 Linear Metres, Illuminated manuscripts, Vellum, 161 leaves plus two paper endleaves, bound; 165 x 125 mm., Double column, 20 lines, ruled in plummet, written space 110 x 84 mm., Decoration: 1-line initials throughout, alternately blue with red penwork, and burnished gold with blue penwork. 2-line and 3-line (mostly 2-line) decorated initials mark lesser divisions with ascenders and descenders extending from the head to the tail of the page and decorated in gold, red, dark blue, light blue, pink and grey with white tracery. 13 historiated initials (5-line and three 6-line) mark the main liturgical divisions of the psalter. They are decorated in gold, red, dark blue, light blue, pink, yellow, and grey with white tracery with ascenders and descenders extending from the head to the tail of the page.
