Photograph taken by Samuel Heath Head, Christchurch. Depicts men working on the installation of the inverted siphon as an extension to the Waimea-Kumara water race which ran across the valley of the Taramakau River. Shows poles erected in the Taramakau River and pontoons or work barges moored near the river bank.
