Photograph of an illustration titled "On his Back with his Jaw in the First Biting Position" from `The cruise of the Cachalot: round the world after sperm whales' by Frank T Bullen (London: Smith, Elder, 1898). Shows a group of whalers in a whaling boat, rowing away from the sharp-toothed jaw of a sperm whale; illustrator's name illegible.

Published in `Making New Zealand' (1939) with the caption: `This illustration from Bullen, "On his Back with his Jaw in the First Biting Position," shows that the sperm whale indeed had a "mouth that could bite."'
