"The text of the present edition of Spenser's works has been prepared by Professor W.L. Renwick. It follows in every case the first editions with such alterations only as are held to be corrections of printers' errors, but the letters I, J, U, V, i, j, u, v are used in the modern way ... The decorations have been designed and engraved on wood by Hilda Quick, those in The Shepheardes calendar being based on the cuts in the original editions. The initial letters and the letterings for the title-page and headings have been engraved by her from designs by Joscelyne Gaskin"--Vol. 1, p. [8].

"Three hundred & seventy-five copies of this edition of which three hundred & fifty are for sale have been printed in England at the Shakespeare Head Press, Saint Aldates, Oxford, and eleven copies have been printed on vellum"--T.p. verso.

"Limited to 375 numbered sets, printed on Batchelor hand-made [watermarked] paper"--Information from bookseller.

Each vol. has individual t.p. and half t.p., with also section title pages.

Title and contents pages printed in red and black, headings and initials printed in blue, handcoloured ill. and decorations. Half titles printed in red ; some marginal notes and other text throughout work printed in red.

Final page of vol. 5 contains errata listing.
