Binding: contemporary calf in Cambridge panel style, with 3 concentric panels, frames highlighted with rolls, fleurons at corners of middle and central frames, gold-tooled perimeter frame. Rebacked, spine gold tooled with decorated compartments, dark red morocco spine labels, gold tooled edges, marbled endpapers, top text edge gilt, untrimmed fore and bottom edges, hinges strengthened with red book tape. Spine title: Voyage to the South Seas. Provenance: bookseller's stamp on front flyleaf "H. Sotheran & Co., 136. Strand, London," bookplate of Alex H. Turnbull. Acc. 743.
