Flos theologiae is frequently attributed to Nicolas de Byard and cited as his Dictionarius pauperum (Cf. ISTC (RLIN) it00553000). Torquemada scholars attribute the work to him. A recent discussion leaves the question open (Cf. Dictionnaire de spiritualité, v. 15, cols. 1052-1053).

Binding: contemporary binding in calf over 8mm wooden boards, rebacked and repaired retaining original covers and spine; covers blind tooled to a diaper design using small tools; lower board has outside bevels to accommodate now missing clasps; nail holes in board edges at corners of both boards indicate cornerpieces, now missing; spine with raised bands with double supports, blind tooled, black morocco spine label, gold tooled; cream endpapers, mended with brown tape in gutter. A pencilled translation of this note on the final blank reads: “This most useful and praiseworthy work rubricated by me Herbordum Wernyngh de Borghorst [i.e. Borchorst], after printing, was paid (sold) for 26 shillings of solid money, without the binding, in the year of our Lord 1487 (thanks be to God) while I was then pastor in Vviden [i.e. Vreden], (and) at that time chief pastor.” Ms foliation in pen at outer edge of head margin begins on g7 ending bb10; missigning on leaf b3 corrected in ms.; some marginalia; first leaf repaired down fore-edge; leaves 1,7,8 badly soiled; some water stains at beginning and end, wormholes in tail margin of first five gatherings and in last three leaves.
