Spine title.

An album of plates and proofs before lettering from different editions of the voyages of James Cook. Includes whole leaves of plates bound in and plates in various sizes mounted on leaves with guard sheets. Includes illustrations by W. Hodges, engraved by W. Watts, J. Basire, W. Byrne, J.K. Sherwin, J. Caldwall, J. Hall, W. Woollett and others. Double copies exist of some plates.

93 plates of illustrations, 16 plates of maps (some folded), 23 charts, 2 plans, 11 plates of portraits.

Portrait plates include: portrait of Captain Cook from the painting by W. Hodges, engraved by J. Basire, and printed by Wm. Strahan, 1777; Sir Joseph Banks from a painting by Tho. Phillips, engraved by N. Schiavonetti, 1812; Sir Joseph Banks from a painting by Tho. Phillips, engraved by C. E. Wagstaff; Sir Joseph Banks from a picture by T. Lawrence, drawn by W. Evans and engraved by A. Cardon; William Hodges engraved by Wm. Daniell, 1810; Reinhold Forster engraved by I.F. Bause, 1781, and also by C. Goeffert; Daniel Charles Solander engraved by J. Graf from a painting in the rooms of the Linnean Society; 'Omai : a native of the Island of Utietea' from a painting by Joshua Reynolds, engraved by John Jacobi, 1780.
