Binding: thumb bible bound in embossed tan goatskin with metal chain extending from lower edge of lower cover to accompanying wooden (oak) miniature lectern; includes magnifying glass in flap at back of volume. Provenance: printed note pasted on to base of lecturn about the origin of chaining single books in churches; accompanied by computer-printed note "Chained Bible was presented by Alan Bycroft of 5 Otuhewa Crescent, Whangarei. It came into his possession in 1962 after belonging to his father Reverend C.G.H. Bycroft who received it from a member of his congregation in the 1930s. Only a limited number of these were produced. They were sold to raise funds for Bible printing. 28 March 2002". Accompanied by two newspaper clippings "Tiny Bible up for auction" (Northern Advocate 30.10.99) and "Tiny Bible in Levin". Deposited in the Alexander Turnbull Library by the Bible Society in New Zealand, 2011. Acc. 405743.
