Binding: contemporary black morocco, tooled in gold to an all-over design of drawer-handle tools, pointillé curls, and pointillé and solid flower tools, within a roll-tooled border, spine gold tooled with decorated compartments, raised spine bands, gold tooled edges and turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt text edges. Endleaves watermarked with three circles surmounted by cross. Provenance: armorial bookplates of Sir Henry Mainwaring (Franks 19480), with motto "Devant si je puis," and John Corbett of Impney, with motto "Deus pascit Corvos," inscription on front endpaper "Thomas Mainwaring his book. 1687." Acc. 343600.
