Binding: contemporary binding in calf over 7 mm wooden boards; corner and centre pieces (lacking one corner piece on lower cover); remains of clasps; blind tooled with four-line fillets and small stamps to a different panel design on each cover; the upper cover with single tools in a repeating pattern; the lower cover with central diaper design; vellum ms spine lining showing between J and K gatherings and at the end of last gathering. Rebacked with calf, blind tooled, raised spine bands, gold tooled lettering, cream 20th century endpapers. Spine title: Scolastica historia Peter Comestor Strassburg 1485.

The Alexander Turnbull Library SPC copy. Provenance: initials supplied in red, blue, and red and blue ; initial on [a2r] extending into inner margin, paragraph marks and underlines in red. Ms marginalia, in red and brown ink and marks, ms inscription beneath title on a1r [Gifton], ms inscription above title: Richard Taylor MA London Jan 9 1836. Donated to the ATL by Laura Harper, Wellington, in 1959. Water stains throughout, occasional slight foxing, a few wormholes at foot of outer margin of 1st 4 leaves, last few leaves crumbling at foot of outer margin, small holes. Lacks leaf A8 and final leaf. Acc. 352399.
