Binding: 18th century green calf, upper and lower cover tooled in gold with a roll border and royal coat of arms as centrepiece. Two slits in the leather at the fore-edge of upper and lower covers shows evidence of former ties or clasps. Spine gold tooled in decorated compartments with cipher of George III; gold tooled edges; marbled end papers; gilt text edges. End papers watermarked with fleur-de-lis, letter 'GR' and countermark 'J Whatman' (Heawood 1846 and 1846A). Provenance: Armorial crest and ciphers of George III; armorial bookplate of John Percival Earl of Egmont (Franks 23284), with motto: "Sub cruce canto"; inscription of Benjamin Hibbard on front flyleaf; pictorial bookplate of Percy Watts Rule. All pages ruled in red. Acc. 352402.
