Map of Canterbury region incorporating Mandeville district, Christchurch district (including town of Lyttelton) and Lincoln district. Shows land subdivision, native reserves, swamps, vegetation cover and "anchorage of H.M.S.V. Acheron" (1848-1851). Relief shown by hachures and bathymetric soundings.
"Depicts the survey work carried out in the Canterbury settlement before the arrival of the Charlotte Jane. It shows 'Lyttelton' on the site of Christchurch, and 'Lyttleton' [sic.] as the port"--Maling, P.B. Historic charts & maps of New Zealand, 1642-1875. P. 240-242.
The Alexander Turnbull Library copy from the Sir John Hall papers is damaged. Half the title is missing.
