The Alexander Turnbull Library SPC copy 1. Misnumbering in pages: 161 and 164 misnumbered 164 and 161. ATL copy has 3rd state of t.p. and state I of 'Effigies' page with Milton poem (cf. Coleridge). Binding: calf, upper and lower covers tooled in gold with fillet rolls, and a crown and tudor rose roll at the outer edges; diamond-shaped centrepiece and corners built up of small tools; gold tooled edges and turn-ins; spine with raised bands, gold tooled in decorated compartments; marbled endpapers, gilt text edges. Text on paper watermarked with fleur-de-lis, as in note, ... confirmed for copy 1 only. Bound by Dodd & Peeling, Woburn (binder's stamp on front flyleaf). Spine title: Shakespeare.
The Alexander Turnbull Library SPC copy 1. Provenance: ownership inscription on front fly leaf: Maurice Wynne, 1712; inscriptions on t.p. in 17th century hand; armorial bookplate with initials F.M.P.; bookplate and accompanying note in ms. of Alex H. Turnbull, note includes statement about copy being "unusually large" ,13 x 8 inches (purchased by A.H.T. from Bertram Dobell in 1908, see ATL MS-Papers-0057-111, 1908). Acc. 352248.
