Description: Four photograph albums compiled by Robert Henry (Harry) Fulton relating to his World War I service between 1916-1919 with New Zealand 12th Reinforcements, and with the New Zealand Army Service Corps (NZASC) based at New Zealand Base Kit Stores unit at Sling Camp, Bulford, England. Many photographs taken by Fulton. Some prints are taken by other unknown photographers as indicated by caption 'loaned negatives', and as they show campaigns, such as Gallipoli, in which Fulton did not serve. Images show his time with the 12th Reinforcements; from the journey from New Zealand on HMNZT 'Ulimaroa' and 'Ivernia' troop ships to Egypt in 1916, camp life in England as part of the NZASC, and activities whilst on leave during wartime and post war. Particularly shows family and home in Ireland and sight-seeing photographs from around Egypt and Great Britian, including New Zealand soldiers at Stonehenge. Prints have captions on the album pages; some images are inscribed on the print. Fulton has often arranged images of unrelated locations and activities on individual album pages. Description: Comprises journal kept by Stuart from 1863-1866 while he was travelling on the continent through Paris, Nice and Geneva, then his embarkation on the `Sea King' at Gravesend (Nov 1863) and coaling at St Vincent. He describes the entertainments on board, the weather, storms, death of a child born on board, arrival at Auckland (27 Jan 1864), meeting the 4th Company which had come from India, his journey to Otahuka and his first impressions. He writes of escorting carts and other military duties, painting views, problems of paying the men, Maori prisoners, in camp at Koheroa, of the engineers making a road, cutting firewood, seeing Tauranga, Te Puke, Wheranghi, fighting, arrival at Wairoa, orders received from Major Shuttleworth, visiting Te Papa, social activities in Auckland, Christmas (1864) and ends at Te Papa on 10 Jan 1865. Description: Album documenting the life and career of Edgar James Kain (1918-1940) from childhood in Wellington until the outbreak of war in 1939. The album includes home life in Wellington, a family climbing holiday in the Southern Alps in 1929, scenes in Christ's College, Christchurch; voyage to England on SS Orford in 1936, including views in Colombo, Aden and Suez); flight training at the Brough Aviation Club; social life, sporting activities and friends in England, France and Italy in the period 1936-1939; and Royal Air Force activities in the period 1937-1939. This album is particularly strong on views of aircraft, personnel, bases and activities of the Royal Air Force in the immediate pre-war years. Kain was posted to No 73 Fighter Squadron, Royal Air Force, at Digby, Lincolnshire, in November 1937, flying Gloster Gladiator biplanes. Comment on President Mugabe's interference in the voting process leading up to the Zimbabwe elections. Shows a member of the IRB (International Rugby Board) Vernon Pugh snatch the football (Rugby World Cup) from an All Black players hands. The player has landed flat on his back. America's war on terror appears to be becoming more frightening than the terror itself. Yaser Arafat and Sharon flex their muscles in a game of arm wrestling while chest deep in a blood bath. Vernon Pugh, Head of the International Rugby Board and Trevor Mallard, Minister of Sport size each other up. A boy tries to stop his father burning his Hurricanes rugby jersey, the rugby team is winning again. George W Bush outlines his approach to the use of nuclear weapons. Treasury suggest selling off thousands of war memorial sites around the country get a better return on the real estate investment. John O'Neill, Chief Executive of the Australian Union justifies Australia gaining the right to host all of the Rugby World Cup games. He admits they have got blood on the hands from stabbing the NZRFU in the back. Jim Anderton assumes The Thinker position as he contemplates the many political parties he's been through or started and left. Helen Clark in army fatigues gains shelter behind the huge boot of the American Forces. She rehearses what she'll say to President Bush if he brings up New Zealand's nuclear free stance when they next meet. Shows three Oscars all lined up with tags attached to them. They are being held in storage till 2003 for Lord of the Rings. David Lange, former New Zealand Prime Minister, tells New Zealanders that the United States wanted to liqudate him.
