Description: Contains whakapapa and waiata from the South Wairarapa, written in a variety of hands (much of the whakapapa seems to focus on Hemi Te Miha and the Te Whaiti family); also contains land records including lists of owners of various blocks and respective shares, and records of the members of various hapu (Ngati Rakairangi, Ngati Moe, Ngati Tukaiora, Ngati Te Rangitawhanga); also contains a letter from Henare Te Whaiti to Maui Pomare about politics; also contains a letter from Paora Waitere of Papawai to Kaihau Te Whaiti enclosing some waiata There is a detailed account by Matina Ruta Tamaiwhakakiteaterangi of the Potangaroa hui, written in 1905; there is also a letter written by Matina about the succession to Paora Tihi; there is also a subscription form for the Maori Peace Memorial to be erected in Masterton Park, a copy of Te Kahiti o Niu Tireni from 1920, and some forms associated with the Rongokako Maori Council; there are some architectural plans for a house for J Te Whaiti at Pirinoa prepared in 1925 (J Te Whaiti is possibly Hohaia Te Whaiti aka Joe Te Whaiti)

Description: Notebook in Maori comprising history of country about Takapau, Hawkes Bay, written in 1905 by Tanguru Tuhua, and history of South Wairarapa by Major H P Tunuiarangi. The material provided by Tuhua deals with the settlement of the Takapau area by various tribal groups; in doing so, Tuhua provides information about Maori placenames in the area, about the principal ancestors of the area, whakapapa and information about traditional conflicts between the different iwi. The material provided by Tunuiarangi contains information provided to him by Paratene Te Okawhare and Aporo Piritaha; the information consists of narratives about the Ngati Rakairangi hapu and principal ancestors thereof; there is also some whakapapa included with the text. In two different Maori hands. Notes in S P Smith's hand on first part says "copied for journal 16.3.06" and for second part "copied for JPS 24.3.06". Spine titles read "Hist.
