Description: Contains schoolboy notes on historical personages but mostly Greenwood recorded day-to-day accounts of his life while a student at St John's College, Tamaki, Auckland. During this period he twice accompanied Bp Selwyn in the `Undine' when he visited various settlements in NZ, in the South Island, visiting Port Nicholson and Canterbury and as far south as Stewart Island, Bluff and Ruapuke. He writes of Selwyn a lot. Some illustrations of these places are included. Pieces of music, `Lightly tread' and `Under the stone' are at the beginning of the volume. Description: Cadastral map showing an area of land between an unamed road (now called The Strand), and Selwyn Terrace, and from the junction of Mechanics Road (now Selwyn Terrace) and Manukau Road on the left side of the map, to Kings Drive, on the right side of the map, in the suburb of Mechanic's Bay, Auckland. The land shown between the roads, The Strand and Selwyn Terrace, is divided into land blocks numbered from 1 to 16, and contains survey measurements, including width and length of each block and the number of perches per block. Survey measurements are given along the length of Selwyn Terrace and some are provided in The Strand. Additional information identifies areas that are not fenced, areas with new palling fences, the location of the original high water mark, Marston and Fox Streets and an area containing the name S Parker Railway Dept. Blk. VIII. Rangitoto S.D. is written above the new road area, now The Strand. Measurements relating to the area of land already under the Land Tranfer Act and land to be brought under the Act is written on the right side of the map. The words, City of Auckland, is written further down the map and near it, is the stamped signature of "Chas. K. Grierson Lic.d Surveyor". Description: The collection consists of two diaries kept by Mary during 1854 and 1858-1859, and letters addressed to her. The largest proportion are written by her future husband, Spenser Mansel Medley and record in detail the progress of their courtship. Other letters were written by Richard Taylor, Mary Caroline Taylor, Elizabeth Marriott and Sarah Selwyn. In addition there are some naval certificates of Spencer Medley. Description: Accounts of voyages on the Will Watch and the Rajah, and a letter from Isabella McCallum from Darlinghurst, Sydney, to Edward Arnold in Geelong, dated 14 November 1843, giving news of old mutual friends and events since Arnold's departure from Sydney. The letters contain candid comments on places and people visited, and his attitude to the treatment of convicts and Maori. They also provide brief descriptions of employment prospects, cost and living conditions in Sydney and Auckland. Arnold accompanied Bishop Selwyn as a servant on the voyage to Australia, ariving in 1842; they then sailed to Waimate in New Zealand, where Arnold remained for about a year.
