Description: Personal record of a soldier in the Maori Battalion of the journey from New Zealand to Egypt, Second World War. Begins with troops lined up on the show grounds at Palmerston North on the 31st of April 1940. Troops embarked on the 1st of May 1940 and sailed for Fremantle, Australia, and were there by the 8th of May. There are photographs of Fremantle Harbour, Perth University, and Maori soldiers with Australian friends. Also photographs of Maori soldiers on deck of ship. The troops sailed from Femantle in a convoy that included the liner transports, Queen Mary, Aquitania, Empress of Japan, Empress of Britain, Mauretania, and Andes. They were in Capetown on the 16 May 1940, and Freetown, Siera Leone on the 23 May. The convoy arrived at Greenock on the Clyde River, Scotland, on the 6th of June 1940. From the 8th of June 1940 to the 2nd of January 1941 the troops were stationed in the south east of England where they did battle training. The places include Bognor, Aldershot, Bostling Green, and Guildford. On the 3rd of January the troops embarked on the Athlone Castle, part of a large convoy of transports and warships bound for Egypt, which they reached on the 1st of March 1941. There are two panoramic views of the convoy, and many photographs of the Maori troops on board the Athlone Castle. In Egypt photographs show the troops landing, the camp at Maadi, gardens at Helwan, training in the desert, views of Cairo, and tours to the pyramids. The last part of the album are photographs of Capetown and its surroundings, other unidentified places, and more snaps taken in Egypt. Quantity: 1 album(s).

There are various scenes on deck showing crowds of soldiers and boxing and wrestling matches. The ship may have been the Oronsay as there is a photograph showing troops embarking on this ship. Associated with this group are images which show other liner troopships which may have been travelling in convoy. They include the Mauritania, Queen Mary, Empress of Canada, and Empress of Britain. The views of ships in Freemantle and Freetown Harbours may also be associated with this group of photographs. There are some views of England, in particular ships on the Clyde. Description: Contains photographs relating to Buckley's sister, Agnes Buckley, who served as a nurse during World War II. Many are of, or include, her. Images are taken by unidentified photographers (possibly including Agnes Buckley and Ron J Moore) with identified photographers John Buckley and Lieutenant C J Justins, ca 1915 to 1979. Photographs mainly relate to Agnes's service during World War II. These feature the time leading up to her departure (including the Waitomo Caves exhibition at the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition and family scenes), tourist sites and street scenes in Egypt (including the Sphinx and the pyramids at Giza), fellow nurses and soldiers, and Agnes's funeral in Italy in 1944. There are a number of formal portraits. Miscellaneous images include a Wellington Bomber aircraft crashed on railway lines in Libya and the troopship 'Aquitania' docked in Wellington. Some images of Egypt are hand coloured. Additionally, Agnes's nursing training and work at Taihape Hospital before the war, and family life, are covered. These images include formal portraits. Documents the life and military service of Sergeant Ivan F Moore (Service Number 7/1023), who served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt and the Balkans during World War One. Volume is illustrated with facsimile reproductions of letters, photographs, postcards, military documents, newspaper cuttings, and printouts from online sources.
