Description: Drawn on a published map, the annotations depict river discharge limits into the sea and seasonal limits of sport fishing areas. A handwritten reference key denotes river and smooth water limits of river mouths, major harbours and straits in blue. The red shaded area denotes extended and partially smooth limits of outer harbours, part of the Hauraki Gulf, Firth of Thames, the top of the Coromandel peninsula and around Great Barrier Island. Two semicircles outlined in green are not included in the reference key but probably denote extreme limits. One extends from Sail Rock around the Mercury and Alderman Islands to a point south of the Tairua River, while the second extends from a point south of Bream Tail around Little Barrier Island to the vicinity of Motuora Island. Green lines, drawn from Bream Tail eastwards and northwards, extend to the latitude of Wide Berth Island which denote an area of seasonal sports fishing, including dates. The location is unidentified but is possibly Whangaparapara Harbour on Great Barrier Island. The photograph is taken from the beach. It shows the view past a pohutakawa tree around the coastline towards a group of buildings emitting smoke in the distance, possibly the Kauri Timber Company sawmill. Description: Drawn on a published map, the annotations depict extended river and partially smooth water limits into the sea. No reference key is included. Great Barrier Island is oulined in red with a prominent marking of Port Tryphena, also the area including Junction and Anvil islands, the False and Wellington Heads to Separation Point. Extended river and partially smooth water limits include the area marked by a red line from the Takatau Peninsula to Shearer Rock across to Cabbage Bay and around the Coromandel Peninsula. The mouth of the Mahurangi Harbour entrance is prominently marked. This map is numbered 29 in red ink on the top right corner. Base map: Bream Head to Tepaki Point including Hauraki Gulf / surveyed by Captain W. Pudsey Dawson. London: The Admiralty, 1906, updated 1907. Description: A view across water, with the cutter `Northern Light' on which Crawford travelled from Matakana to Auckland. Three houses shown on the bush-clad shoreline in the background. A tall cabbage tree stands above the bush on the hilltop There is no area currently called Pakaraka Bay. 'Pakaraka Bay' listed here, is not Pakaraka, Northland, which is well north of this point and inland. The following pages include a drawing of 'Lesser Barrier Island' from 'Pakiriki', the latter possibly a more correct rendering of the place name, and suggesting the ship is in the Hauraki Gulf, between Auckland and Little Barrier Island.
