Original owner was James Gough who purchased 128 hectares (known as Nesslea) in 1864. In 2007 the 'Essendon' portion of the estate was owned by his great-greatgrandson Paul Keith Jarman and his wife Ann. Description: Papers include: Drawing of The Homestead, Claxby, 1991 (on postcard); pages copied from `Ninety years - Some memoirs' by Marmaduke Spencer-Bower, ca 1999 which cover the history of Claxby. Claxby has been farmed by the Dixon family since 1852 when Marmaduke Dixon took up 6,480 acres between the Waimakariri and Eyre Rivers. In 2005 the property was owned and farmed by Richard Marmaduke Spencer-Bower and his wife Margaret. Richard is the great grandson of Marmaduke Dixon and son of Marmaduke Spencer-Bower.
