Description: Cartoons by Malcolm Evans on New Zealand and international political issues. Part of the NZ Cartoon Archive Malcolm Evans, born 1945 in Tauranga, is a New Zealand cartoonist residing in Auckland. As of 2011, his cartoons appear daily in three major New Zealand newspapers: The Manawatu Standard, The Timaru Herald and The Christchurch Press. He also produces cartoons fortnightly for Rural News, New Zealand Dairy News, and Dairy News Australia. As of 2018: his cartoons appear in the Northland Age. Evans began working in the advertising department at the Bay of Plenty Times, and then working as a cartoonist abroad in England. Upon his return to New Zealand, he began working for The New Zealand Herald in 1970, and became the successor to Sir Gordon Minhinnick in 1976. Two years later, in 1978, he returned to the advertising industry, but continued his fortnightly 'Edna' cartoons in Rural News and other agricultural papers in New Zealand and Australia. Evans returned cartooning for the New Zealand Herald in 1997 and was judged NZ cartoonist of the year in 1999. In 2003, he was let go from the New Zealand Herald, following controversy over his cartoons depicting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
