Description: Album of photographs taken by unidentified photographers, taken in central North Island, and Otago and Southland regions, circa 1900s and 1910s. Some of the images are related to railways, including North Island scenes of the first passenger trip on 14th February 1909, during which the train stopped on the Raurimu Spiral because of a lack of engine power to haul it; the railway station at Longburn; a locomotive owned by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company; various engines including one image showing a J Class locomotive and an A Class locomotive with the caption "Note the difference in 20 years". South Island trains are shown in the Catlins District, including the construction of the Catlins River Railway, the Houipapa Quarry on the Catlins River Extension, loading wagons in the Balclutha ballast pit, the viaduct across the Catlins River at Houipapa, the Clutha Railway Bridge, and the Houipapa terminus on the Catlins River Railway. The North Island scenic views include the areas around Lake Rotorua, the Government Sanatorium at Rotorua, Sophia's Whare, a group of Maori boys diving for pennies, Whakarewarewa, Okere and Ohakune. Scenic views in the South Island are mostly around Dunedin (including Telford's country house in the Balclutha District), Clutha River, Balclutha, and the Catlins, including flax swamps and flax mills in the Catlins District. Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of New Zealand made by the Prince of Wales in 1920. Many of the images are of military inspections and displays by school children. There are also displays of Maori dancing and singing, the sailors of the HMS Renown, on which the prince had travelled , prior to their soccer match in Dunedin, the prince addressing the crowds etc. A number of the images are in two-part panoramas. Also included are four scenic photographs by the New Zealand Tourist Department which may have been taken in 1903. The photographer for the tour photographs was Guy. Railways album 3

Description: Publicity photographs taken by various unidentified photographers for New Zealand Railways. The only identifying information is a few pencilled notes giving some locations, but there are no captions identifying people. There is a large sequence showing events surrounding the first celebrations marking the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6th February 1934 attended by Lord Bledisloe. He had purchased the site, and donated money for the Treaty House renovations in 1932. The celebrations brought 10,000 Maori to Waitangi. The images show huge crowds, haka parties, various iwi performing, and parties of dignitaries including Lord and Lady Bledisloe, Joseph Gordon Coates and George William Forbes. Other scenes with Lord Bledisloe show him visiting the Waitaki Hydroelectric power station. Views of New Zealand include Government Tourist Bureau accomodation houses including those at Waitomo and the Hermitage (Mt. Cook); accomodation houses at Helensville and Parakai with interior and exterior views, and showing activities available (spa pools, games such as croquet, golf, and bowls); anglers standing by swordfish they have caught; skiing and ski lessons; and waterfalls. Industrial and agricultural views show dairy cows, citrus groves, the Kiwi Bacon Factory, printing presses, and race courses. A number show people at the beach at Mount Maunganui, and a large group picniking. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Lantern slides of gardens and related subjects taken ca 1930s-1950s. Five slides are labelled as being taken by William Williams in Christchurch during the 1930s, but otherwise photographers are unidentified. Some slides have captions written on paper affixed to the glass, that describe the location and subject. The images include: - Views of various gardens, flower beds, and trees. Also associated buildings and garden features including steps, ornamental borders, ponds, large pools, streams, bridges, pathways, the rock garden at Windlesham Moor, and a band rotunda. - Four images of Abbotsford Park in Gloucestershire, England. - Six images of gardens in Christchurch taken by William Williams between 1933 and 1937 (with labels giving the addresses). Another image shows the greenhouse at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. - Aerial views of two extensive formal gardens. One image shows gardens around a castle with moat, possibly in Holland. - Delphinium trial garden bed with sign, identifying it as held by "R H S" [Royal Horticultural Society?] and the British Delphinium Society. - Eleven images appear to be from commercial series. Nine feature drawings relating to garden design; the others show water lilies and a circular floral 'clock'. - Another series show plant portraits in garden settings, including at Windsor Great Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. These images are numbered and may be from a commercial set. - Also contains an image of an unidentified man [gardener?] carrying baskets on a pole.
