Description: Album of postcard photographs from England and Europe, photographs taken by various photographers, including those with the following initials "F.F. & Co", "W", and "J V" One photograph, taken by C Spencer, is of the Waimangu Geyser in New Zealand. Album also contains two watercolours, one entitled "The reservoir near Shenstone, Warwickshire, June 28 at 2 o'clock" signed JEFG[?]. Description: Album of photographs taken by various photographers many of whom are unidentified. Photographs are seen on pages 1-31, with pages 32-50 unused. Colombo is shown in the first part of the album, and includes street scenes, the "Old Colombo Lighthouse", the Galle Face Hotel(?), views of outrigger fishing canoes, carts drawn by humped cattle, "padda" boats on a canal, and a group of young Sri Lankan women. The second part of the album contains views of New Zealand, chiefly in the thermal regions with views of Ohinemutu, Hamurana Springs, the Poutuhu Geyser, Waimangu Geyser, the "Fairy bath" at Okoroire and the "Okoroire Natural Bridge Rapids". Description: Photographs of thermal activity in the Orakei Korako area ca 1940s with an older photograph of the Pink Terraces (photographer C Spencer). Also includes images of a rafting trip on the Waikato River in 1948 that relates to an enclosed newspaper clipping. Also included is a letter from the donor. Relationship complexity - Film Archive holds a film of the same trip down the Waikato River at F39221. The record for F39221 also has a link to a letter written in 1998 by on the the three men in the boat. Quantity: 37 b&w original photographic print(s). Provenance: The photographs were owned by Mr and Mrs Hamilton who ran the tourist area of Orakei Korako ca 1947 and donated by Charles Dolph.

Description: New Zealand scenes including thermal areas in the North Island, and river, mountain and roading scenes in the South Island, taken by various identified and unidentified photographers between about the 1880s and 1900s. Two photographers, Josiah Martin and Patrick Thomas Malaghan took most of the images. Other identified photographers include Edmund Wheeler, F. Finch, A.J. Iles, Charles Spencer, Edward Le Grice, J.V. (James Valentine), and Ross (Photographer, Invercargill). Several of the unidentified photographers are listed under their initials only, and include one with the initials T.S.M (or S.T.M. in a monogram), also A.A.B., R.G., Rooney, Luney (?), and L.M. A large number of those taken by Patrick Malaghan show Skippers Road and the Shotover River, with Pinchers Bluff, Huttons Cutting, Hell's Gate, and Skippers Creek. Thermal areas in the North Island show the Pink and White Terraces before the 1886 eruption of mount Tarawera, and also a number taken after the eruption, including the remnants of Te Ariki Pa. A large number also show various geysers, mud pools and hot springs. One method of crossing rivers is shown with the Hooker Wire Bridge (or Hooker Cage) and a "chair" travelling across a wire in Skippers over the Shotover River. Note on this box reads: "1st Ball Hut print" (no. 33); and "J. Martin "Mt Cook"" (no. 66). Most of the places identified are listed above. Other Titles - Old P.O.P. Description: Publicity photographs taken by various unidentified photographers for New Zealand Railways Department. The first sequence shows Napier before the 1931 earthquake, and after. Photographs include various buildings seriously damaged, including the hospital, the Masonic Hotel, Public Trust offices in Napier and in Hastings, the Hastings Post Office, and a view of the Napier Park Refugee Camp.
